Description: The first of two talks by Patricia De Haan on early maps. The first map of Shropshire was prepared by Christopher Saxton in 1577. Who was he? Who needed the map? Why in 1577? Who paid for it? Why did no roads appear on a map of Shropshire for another 100 years? The talk will seek to explain these questions.
