This item from the Museum’s collection is a Coalport convex ceramic plaque painted by Percy Simpson who was the Company’s foremost landscape painter after the First World War until the time that Coalport moved to Stoke on Trent.
Percy favoured a yellowish tinge to his artwork and painted many fine landscapes on Coalport items during a very difficult period for the factory. He had joined the factory in 1901 and later became the Company’s Art Director after it moved to Stoke.
This plaque was formerly on display at Clive House Museum and measures 160mm by 110mm. We can only hope that it features in a future exhibition at the Shrewsbury Museum.
